HOT-DIP GALVANISING

Galvanising is the process of applying a zinc-based coating to steel constructions. Hot-dip galvanizing (H-D G) involves submersing steel products into a bath of molten zinc at a temperature of around 450 degrees. As a method of protecting steel against corrosion H-D G is well known since the mid-eighteenth century, but for many years it was a typical manual method. Along with industrial development a need to use technology on a massive scale arose. Today, this method of corrosion-protection is frequently chosen because:

HOT-DIP GALVANISING IS COST-EFFECTIVE AND ECONOMICAL

Given the long period of exploitation of constructions subjected to H-D G this method is in the long run more profitable than the coat of paint - in this method the operation time is definitely shorter and you need to undergo renovations of paint coat every few years.

HOT-DIP GALVANISING IS SAFE FOR CONSTRUCTION

Safety of a construction depends primarily on the preparation for galvanizing. Please read our designer's guide.

HOT-DIP GALVANISING IS SAFE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Steel constructions are galvanized in accordance with the international standards EN ISO 1461. During gradual oxidation zinc coating does not release any substances that might have a negative impact on the environment. H-D G plant is also very safe for the environment.

ZINK COAT IS PERMANENT
Zinc coating protects the structure against corrosion by an average of about 25-30 years. Typically, the coating applied in H-D G process has a thickness of 55-60 um, and - depending on the environment (rural, marine, urban or industrial) - it oxidises in various ratios. It must be emphasized that zinc coat durability is dependent not only on the environment in which construction is exploited, but also on many individual factors, including the chemical composition of steels undergoing a process of H-D G, the composition and temperature of a galvanizing bath, preparation of the surface structure, etc.

ZINC COATING DOESN'T HAVE TO BE GRAY
It is possible to put an additional layer of paint on a zinc coating - this method is called duplex system. Two main factors opt for choosing a combination of these methods of corrosion protection:
- durability of the duplex system exceeds the sum galvanising and painting durability itself. Depending on the aggressiveness of the climate synergy effect of a duplex system ranges from 1.2 (in very aggressive environment) to even 2.7.
- you can paint the construction on the chosen color.

HOT-DIP GALVANISING PROCESS IS NOT TIME-CONSUMING
Hot-dip galvanising process in our plants takes about 18 hours (the entire service consists of: unloading, pickling process, H-D G process, loading). The final term delivery of the service in ZinkPower Szczecin Sp. z o.o. of course depends on the weight and type of structures.
